Acoustic treatment considerations
Older Perth school halls have character — and reverberation problems. We work with what the building gives us: speaker placement, zoning and EQ that fixes intelligibility without ruining the room.
Speech first, music second.
A school hall is a speech room first — assemblies and presentations outnumber the musicals. The rig has to make every word at the back row land.
For larger halls we typically deploy a line array (column or flown) so coverage is even from the front row to the back wall, without the hot spots and dead zones point-source boxes produce. For smaller halls a carefully placed pair of point-source speakers does the job and saves budget for lighting or projection.
Zone control means the stage, the floor and the foyer can run different sources at different volumes — speeches in the hall, music in the foyer, both on one system. Wireless mic packages sized to your productions: handheld, lavalier and headset, in the right counts for the shows you actually do.

The lights and projection need to handle a full production week — but also be operable by a Year 9 coordinator running assembly on a Tuesday morning.
- Stage lighting: LED PAR washes, profile spots, dimming and a moving-head package if the productions call for it. DMX control, simple scene presets.

1. New build
Working from the architect's services drawings with your builder and their electrical and data trades. We attend site meetings during the fit-out, lock in rigging points, dimmer locations, FOH patch bays and cable pathways before the plasterboard goes in. Hall systems are unforgiving to retrofit — getting it right at build is the cheapest time to do it.
2. Retrofit of an older hall
Heritage or just older Perth school halls — many have beautiful timberwork that nobody wants butchered. We design the AV around the building: surface-mount conduit where it has to, hidden cabling where it can, speakers and lights placed to keep the room's character intact.
3. Staged upgrade
School budgets don't always let you do everything at once. We plan staged upgrades — keep what's still working (cabinet, cabling infrastructure, projector if it's healthy) and replace what's holding the room back. The handover documents the staging so the next phase slots in cleanly.

1. Walk-through
We come out, look at the hall, hear it in its current state, and read the room. You'll get a written scope with what we're proposing and why — and what's deliberately not in it. No surprises.
2. Honest scope
Cost depends on hall size, coverage type, lighting depth, projection or LED, hearing augmentation and existing cabling we can reuse. A primary assembly hall is a very different job to a Year 12 production-grade auditorium — we quote after the walk-through, no guesswork.
3. Install around your calendar
Larger installs go into school holidays where possible. Term-time work is planned around class changes, exams and production weeks. We coordinate with your operations team and your production coordinator, not past them.
4. Handover & support
Teacher-friendly presets, labelled systems, a training session for the staff who'll actually run it, documented setups, and fast support when something fails the week of the production. Owner on the tools — not a subcontractor relay.

How much does a school hall AV system cost?
Depends on hall size, whether you need line array or point-source coverage, lighting rig depth, projection or LED wall, hearing augmentation and how much of the existing cabling we can reuse. Can you work with our builder or architect?
Yes — and we'd rather be in the conversation earlier than later. We work from services drawings on new builds, coordinate with the builder's electrical and data trades, and attend site meetings during the fit-out so cabling, rigging points, power and control locations land where the system needs them.
Can staff operate it without a technician?
Yes. We design hall systems to run as presets — assemblies, presentation, awards night, simple production. Teachers and admin staff get a labelled console, a short handover session and QR-linked quick-start guides on the rack. A trained technician only matters for full production weeks, and we can be on call for those too.
Do you service existing halls?
We do. Plenty of Perth schools ring us about an inherited system that nobody can quite drive — underused features, dead zones, lighting nobody's touched in years. We diagnose, document what's there and bring it back under control, including handover training so your team can actually use what you've already paid for.
